Procedure for the Evaluation & Summarization of the Needs of

 Perspective CMTE Participants

•  The need for continuing education courses is addressed in the Regional conference              evaluation and Continuing Music Therapy Education (CMTE) evaluation.  Conference

and CMTE participants are asked for ideas on future topics and presenters.

•  A summarization of continuing education needs from both the conference and CMTE course

evaluations is formed.

Procedure for Addressing Activity Topic,

Learning Objectives and Learning Outcomes

•  Perspective CMTE course instructors are requested to present information on topics identified in the needs summary.  Once the instructor has agreed to present this information, learning objectives from the CBMT Scope of Practice are requested.

•  A copy of hand-outs and post-test information is requested by the Continuing Education Director from the course instructor to ensure that CMTE course information correlates with the CBMT Scope of Practice learning objectives.

Conformity with the CBMT Code of Professional Practice

Maintenance of Board Certification requires adherence to the Certification Board for Music Therapy (CBMT) Code of Professional Practice.  The Southwestern Region of the American Music Therapy Association (SWAMTA) ensures that Continuing Music Therapy Education (CMTE) courses provided by the region comply with guidelines indicated in the CBMT Approved Provider Manual. A record of CMTE courses and CMTE participant information is maintained by the SWAMTA Continuing Education director to ensure conformity with CBMT guidelines for recertification for each Board Certified (B.C.) course participant.  This includes:

Documentation identifying  name, board certification /social security number of each CMTE course

      participant

An agenda provided by the course instructor that addresses course information pertaining to the

      CBMT Scope of Practice.

A certificate indicating the name of the course participant and number of CMTE credits awarded.

Course participants receiving and reporting information regarding CMTE information to CBMT must  have successfully completed the academic and clinical training requirements for Music Therapy.

SWAMTA is responsible for providing the required activity fee for each CMTE course to

CBMT within thirty days of implementation.
